The curd is not quite so common in Italy though. Once I was craving for donuts, and had to figure out how to replace the ingredient that does not exist in Italy. The MAIN ingredient! So after a few attempts, I decided to replace the curd with the ricotta cheese and curd cheese (nope, it is not the same as curd). The homemade donuts turned out amazing! Isn't it lovely when you can make one of your favorite sweets abroad not having the main ingredient? It DOES make one happy, trust me :)
Making these homemade donuts is as easy as 1, 2, 3. It is mixing all the ingredients, and frying the donuts. That's it! No dough raising, no kneading, no forming the donuts. Oh I love quick recipes, I believe delicious food does not necessary have to be difficult-to-make and time consuming!
These homemade donuts are a bit different in shape compared to the American donuts. We Lithuanians actually never fry them in such shape. At the end of the day, it is the flavor that matters, and these donuts are simply O.M.G. You may try to fry them in their "original" shape instead of a roll - really up to you.
What I love about these donuts is that they are great for a coffee break, too! Or just a pass-by bite (shh, don't tell anyone :D)
